Elements and Performance Criteria

  1. Plan and prepare to operate from an elevated work platform underground
  2. Position and set up platform
  3. Conduct work activities from elevated platform
  4. Carry out operator maintenance and housekeeping

Performance Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate the ability to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including evidence of the ability to:

operate from elevated work platforms underground on at least two occasions, including:

identifying and using approved dust suppression and extraction methods

positioning, setting up and stabilising elevated work platform

conducting work activities from an elevated work platform

identifying and using approved safety devices

maintaining, cleaning and storing equipment.

During the above, the candidate must:

locate and apply required documentation, policies and procedures and confirm work activity is compliant

implement the requirements, procedures and techniques for the safe, effective and efficient completion of operating from elevated work platforms underground including:

selecting and operating appropriate equipment

inspecting and assessing site conditions

carrying out pre-start checks, start-up and shutdown procedures

identifying, addressing and reporting risks and hazards and environmental issues

work effectively with others to operate from an elevated work platform underground in a way that meets required outcomes, including:

organising work activities to meet task requirements

communicating clearly and concisely with others to receive and clarify work instructions

complying with reporting requirements and procedures.


Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must be able to demonstrate knowledge to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including knowledge of:

key legislation required to operate from elevated work platform underground

key policies, procedures and documentation required to operate from elevated work platform underground, including those relating to:

monitoring operations

work health and safety

equipment isolation

operational and site requirements

hand and power tools

principles and techniques for dust suppression and extraction, including those for the following methods:

mobile/fixed sprays

screens (vent doors and vent blinds)

use of water trucks

ventilation bags operational

watering down site

characteristics, technical capabilities and limitations for elevated work platforms and required equipment, including those for:

baskets

cherry pickers

crane boxes

scissor lifts

principles and techniques for stabilising work platforms according to ground conditions

principles and techniques for identifying and responding to relevant hazards and emergencies

site requirements for housekeeping, completing maintenance records and reporting requirements

basic techniques for communicating job activities with others.
